Jacqueline HERMANN

Original title: Sementes do Messias: percursos do messianismo régio ibérico (sécs. XIV-XVI)

Published in Medieval and Early Modern Iberian Peninsula Cultural History

Keywords: Iberian Peninsula, Judaism, Messianism, Sebastianism.

This paper discusses some of the possible routes of royal messianism in the Iberian world between the XIV and XVI Centuries. Through a vast songbook, poems and texts of various kinds it is possible to identify the roots of royal messianism as emerged in Iberia Peninsula in the Middle Ages, and its development in the Modern Period. The best example of royal messianic expectations, Portuguese Sebastianism, fed upon these sources amongst others, and found fertile ground in the dramatic political context which followed the defeat by the Moors in Alcácer Quibir.

Cláudia Andréa Prata Ferreira

Original title: O Pacto da Memória: Interpretação e Identidade na Fonte Bíblica

Published in Mirabilia 3 (2003)

Keywords: Identity, Judaism, Memory.

Interpretation of the biblical and rabbbinic texts in the Jewish Tradition. We understood the biblical and rabbbinic texts as being a project of construction of the memory. That memory, built literarily starting from an oral tradition and writing, evidences the singular relationship between the human and the divine and it tries to legitimate in its speech the idea of a Religion and Tradition of the Book. That memory constitutes, then, the essential element in the project of construction of the individual or collective identity of the People of the Book (in Hebrew, Am Ha'Sefer). We established the relationship memory and religion tends as central element the Hebrew word zikaron " memory". The originality of the present project is elencar a group of elements us which the construction and formation of the identity and memory are articulated in the Judaism tends as referencial the sources ju-daicas, in particular, produced them in language hebraica. Memory, Language and speech in the narrative, interpreting the specific case of the hebrew biblical narrative and the rabbinic narrative: we privileged the biblical and rabbinic sources, pillars of the Jewish faith.

Jane Bichmacher de GLASMAN

Original title: O Tempo na Cosmovisão Judaica

Published in The Time and the Eternity in the Ancient and Medieval World

Keywords: Calendar, Ecology, Jewish Festivals, Judaism, Shabbat.

Judaism is usually studied and analyzed from several points of view. My purpose, in this text, is to detach the time markers, specially the months of the year and the Shabbat, as characteristic elements in the formation and in the permanence of Jewish tradition, since the origins of universal history up to contemporary, as well as its connection with nature, illustrating like this Jewish worldview through the time dimension.
