Dear collaborators and readers,
Due to editorial reasons, the specialized section Mirabilia Medicinæ closed its specific volumes with special thanks to all collaborators who, since its opening in 2012, have sent precious contributions and helped in the review of articles.
---
Mirabilia Medicinæ was an online external peer-reviewed international journal, which provides articles, documents and academic reviews produced by scholars of the Medical Humanities. This publication is devoted to the concept of Interdisciplinary Studies, which is expressed in the relationship between Human Health, Medicine and other fields of knowledge as Philosophy of Medicine, Bioethics, Medical Ethics, History of Medicine, Medicine and Arts, Medical Narrative, Literature, Teology and other humanistic content in the search for the Modern, Medieval and Ancient roots of contemporary medicine.
Mirabilia is a Latin word which means “admirable things” or “wonders” and comes from the verb “mirare”, i.e. “to look at”. Therefore, this name evokes the admirable aspects “of Medicine” (Medicinæ).
Mirabilia Medicinæ intends not only to unite the studies of different branches in the human sciences with Medicine and Healthcare, but also to establish a dialogue between these areas in Brazil. The reason of this ambition is simple: Brazilian scholars and students have great difficulties to access the sources and the recent publications - a common problem in developing countries. Therefore, by approaching the Medical Humanities and offering them with the opportunity of sharing the research findings in Brazil and abroad, we intend to strengthen the Brazilian studies, offering to a greater number of people access to the results of research currently conducted. It is an essential step to humanize Medicine and to capacitate the physician to a deep and broad knowledge of the human experience.
